Candles of Hope

The Candle of Hope ceremony is a wonderful, emotional and poignant reminder of the lives that are touched by cancer

At 10pm Relay comes to a halt and everyone gathers to remember those who have lost their lives to cancer  Specially decorated candle bags are set around the track.  They are dedicated to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Each candle is lit as darkness falls and a lone piper calls everyone to join in a special dedication ceremony.

Afterwards everyone walks around the candlelit track in silence, in honour of all those remembered in this way.

The candles will remain alight while the Relayers walk through the night and on into Sunday. This is to symbolise that cancer never sleeps.

Dedicating A Candle

You can dedicate a candle in memory of someone or to celebrate a loved one's survival.

You can obtain a bag from any team or committee member.  Or they will be available at Relay.

Then just make a donation and decorate a bag.  We can also decorate a bag for you.

The money donated will fund work carried out by Cancer Research UK scientists to help relieve suffering and help find a cure for cancer sooner.
